Description
A crisp, bright day is an enchanting time in the woods, whether in spring, autumn or winter. Wildlife

The tree canopy is home to numerous birds, including owls, buzzards and woodpeckers, to name but a few. In a nearby area of neighbouring woodland, a heronry supports a breeding colony of these majestic birds, while the shared riverbank provides a thriving ecosystem for aquatic life, including vital habitat for a native beaver population.

Local area and history
Where the gentle slopes of the southern Cotswold Hills descend into the Avon Valley, the area draws visitors from all over the world to the city of Bath and the stunning surrounding countryside that follows the river valley to Bradford-on-Avon. The Manor of Budbury, from which this woodland takes its name, refers to the house and lands that formed the area to the north of the town as early as the eleventh century. Before that, the site was the location of an Iron Age settlement dating back some two and a half thousand years.

Directions
From Bradford-on-Avon, follow the B3107 east towards Holt/Melksham. After approximately one mile, you will see a small concreted opening in the hedge on your right-hand side (What3words: cans.operation.mergers) as you approach a crossroads, just before the turning to a cottage. This is the access track to the woods. Follow the track across the fields towards the woodland gate, passing the cottage and barns on your left.
The gate is kept locked for security, but you can contact Daniel on 07780 900192 for the code to the combination padlock. Please ensure the gate is kept securely closed during and after your visit.
Beyond the gateway, the track bends sharply to the right. Continue for approximately 250 metres until you reach a junction with other woodland tracks beside a small open-fronted shed. You may park here, taking care not to obstruct the track. Continue along the straight central access track and, after a further 250 metres, turn left at the crossroads. You will see the red boundary marking for Budbury Wood on your right. The entrance and name sign are approximately 70 metres beyond this point.
