Fir trees dominate the woodland, with oaks scattered among them, while at a lower level there are hazel, holly, and birch throughout this gently sloping wood.

The woodland floor has a rich and diverse character, with mosses and ferns, bluebells, primroses, foxgloves, violets, and wood sorrel among the many species to be found within and around Issacot Wood. Several of these plant species are indicators of ancient woodland.

The peacefulness of the location seems especially attractive to roe deer, and groups of four or five are often seen browsing within the wood. Other woodland-dwelling mammals include foxes and badgers.

The tall conifer trees provide excellent habitat for larger raptors such as buzzards and goshawks, while songbirds such as wrens enjoy the safe shelter of the vegetation on the forest floor.

Issacot Wood benefits from the use of a shared area of riverbank along the River Inny, a stunning natural haven where you can often spot the blue flash of a kingfisher hunting for fish. Otters are also known to inhabit the river. The River Inny is approximately 20 miles long, flowing from the edge of Bodmin Moor to its confluence with the River Tamar.

There is a bench here where you can sit and relax, as well as space to pitch a tent for the night. To reach the bench, follow the forest track along the northern boundary until just beyond the end of Issacot Wood, then look for a cut path on your right between the purple and orange waymarkers. Follow this 10-metre-wide path down to the riverside area, which is marked by fence posts.

Access is via a stone forestry track leading to the woodland entrance, where there is ample space for parking and access by 4x4 vehicle.

Internal access is generally good, with a network of cut paths and mammal tracks throughout the site.

There are no public footpaths within the woodland.

As is the case for all our woodlands, the purchaser will be asked to enter into a covenant which serves to protect the peace and quiet of the woodland.

The tranquillity of the woodland location makes this an ideal space for occasional wild camping with family and friends as well as other immersive activities within nature such as outdoor yoga or forest bathing.

Issacot Wood is ideally located for exploring both the north and south coasts of Cornwall, lying roughly equidistant between the charming fishing harbours of Boscastle to the north and Looe to the south. The dramatic landscapes of Bodmin Moor are also within easy reach, offering a wealth of walking opportunities. The nearby village of Lewannick is accessible via a pleasant stroll along quiet country lanes and offers local amenities, including a pub and village shop.
