Description
Tazelars Wood is located high above the picturesque Tweed Valley, noted for natural beauty and excellent amenity facilities. Formerly agricultural land, the wood was planted with native broadleaf trees some fifteen years ago
Stands of young oak, alder and hazel frame a large open grassland area, giving the wood an open-sky feel and makes the most of the stunning views its elevated location facilitates. A historic shelter-belt consisting of more mature conifers runs along an ancient wall line through the centre of the wood.
The provision of two large hardstandings gives a ready-made opportunity for siting a recreational hut as well as space for parking and camping.

Trees
There are two large single-species stands of young oak. A further two blocks of hazel and alder are located along the southern perimeter. A shelter-belt of more mature spruce crosses the wood from north to south. This also contains a scattering of larch and Scots pine.
Wildlife
The peaceful setting allows wildlife to make its home undisturbed. Fox, badger and roe deer are more easily seen at dawn and dusk, with a wide variety of birdlife diurnally active.

The wood features two large, level hard standings, each with its own separate entrance.
A rustic bench has been placed to take advantage of the extensive views down the Tweed valley.
Access, tracks and footpaths
Access to the woodland is off the A72 and then via a series of well made forest tracks leading through a gated entrance to the internal woodland tracks.
Rights and covenants
The sporting rights are owned and included in the sale.

The level open areas could be the ideal location for siting a hut, with opportunities for further planting and small-scale management of the existing trees.
Local area and history
The nearby town of Innerleithen was formerly a centre of textile manufacture. In days gone by, the spiky seed heads of teasels were used to raise the nap on woven fabric. The highly skilled role of the Tazelar was to set the teasels on the rotating machinery.
Now a vibrant centre for mountain biking , the town is well served by a variety of shops and accommodation facilities.
The wider areas has many other activities on offer: walkers enjoy the Southern Upland Way just a mile or so to the south; anglers the River Tweed with its salmon fishing flowing in the valley bottom while mountain bikers come to two of the best biking centres in the UK, Innerleithen and Glentress. For a sense of history a quick look at the OS map shows many ancient monuments, hill forts, settlements and cairns. For more recent history, Traquair is claimed to be Scotland's oldest inhabited house whilst the nearby St Ronan's Well is a Victorian spa visited by many.

Conventional directions:
- From Innerleithen take the A72 towards Peebles. After about 1 mile pass Caerleebank livery on the right.
- Pass a red warning sign; "Farm traffic" and take the farm track to the right immediately before a row of white cottages at 90° to the road.
- From Peebles take the A72 towards Innerleithen for about 3½ miles passing the McDonalds Cardrona hotel on the right.
- After a further 1½ miles pass the entrance to Glenormiston farm which has a white gatehouse with ornate wrought iron gates.
- Pass a red warning sign: "Farm traffic" and take the farm track to the left immediately after a row of white cottages at 90° to the road.
- Follow the track up the hill turning right at the T junction. Continue through the trees, the track bends sharp left passing a gateway to a timber stable on the right. The road continues to rise passing through a stand of birch trees.
- Please park in front of the small quarry on the right, the main entrance is evident, to the right of the track.
- Walk through the stile next to the gate and continue up the hill for about 100m to the well marked entrance on the right.
